It stars Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles.[7] This is the fourth collaboration between Barjatya and Khan after their previous films Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, and Hum Saath Saath Hain.
The cinematography of the movie was done by V. Manikandan and was edited by Sanjay Sankla. The soundtrack was composed by Himesh Reshammiya, and the background music done by Sanjoy Chowdhury. The film was released in India and Pakistan on 12 November 2015.[8] It emerged as a commercial success and ranks among the highest-grossing Bollywood films, with a gross of ₹400 crore (US$59 million) worldwide.[5] The movie was reported to be loosely inspired by the South Korean movie Masquerade.[9].The songs featured in the film have been composed by Himesh Reshammiya with lyrics by Irshad Kamil and features 10 songs in the album.
Sanjoy Chowdhury has composed the original background score, while Reshammiya was credited for the themes based on his songs.
The music rights of the film were sold to T-Series for a record amount of ₹17 crore (US$2.5 million) satellite rights were sold to star network for ₹50 crore (US$7.4 million), making it the most expensive music rights deal in the Bollywood film industry at the time.[41] The full music album of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was released on 10 October 2015.[42]
The first video song titled "Prem Leela" was released on 7 October 2015,[43] followed by "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Title Track" which was released on 14 October 2015,[44] "Jalte Diye" which released on 21 October 2015[45] and "Jab Tum Chaho" which was released on 28 October 2015.[46] "Aaj Unse Milna Hai" video was premiered on 4 November 2015.
